Afterwards, she got together with her friends and neighbors to create what became the group. All the women united around the proposal of improving their condition of life and that of their families.

One of the members is Andresa who has a notions shop where she sells all sorts of articles, including items of clothing, gift articles, and other things. By means of the store, which generates her income, she can maintain her family and all those who depend on her. Andresa comments that she has a well-developed clientele who always buy from her.

Andresa requests the loan to buy gift articles, items of clothing, and other items to supply her shop, and in this manner, to be able to satisfy her customers. She is very grateful to the Foundation for the opportunity it provides.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
