A loan of $775 helped to purchase construction materials (cement, rebar, sand, stone, iron, etc.) for his house.

Ernesto's story

Ernesto was born in the province of Inhambane in southern Mozambique. He is married and the father of six children, some of whom are adults while the others attend school. He went to school through the fifth grade but had to drop out because of financial difficulties. He lives in his own home with his family, and also supports his nephew, who lives with him.
He's never left Inhambane. He's worked as the general manager of a banana plantation for more than 10 years and earns about 6,500 meticals a month. He uses his salary to pay for household expenses and also saves a little in a bank account. He has never had loans from other banks. He learned about Hluvuku from friends who are also clients of the institution. This is his second loan, in the amount of 20,000 meticals, which he will use to purchase construction materials (cement, rebar, sand, stone, iron, etc.) to continue the construction on his house. His first loan was in the amount of 15,000 meticals, which he used to purchase consumer goods. He hopes to ask for further loans from Hluvuku to finish his house so he can provide his family with a more comfortable life.
