A loan of $1,000 helped to buy a cooling tank for raw milk, together with other people.

Lucia's story

Señora Lucia lives in the community known as Esquilan Chico in the city of Cochabamba, with her husband and young son. Señora Lucia works producing raw milk. She delivers her production to the Pil Andina Company, which is responsible for milk distribution throughout Cochabamba city. She currently has 14 milking cows, producing on average 90 liters a day. It's a family business, and one that takes place throughout the year. This client only delivers the minimum amount of milk to the Pil Company, so that her mom doesn't lose her contract. It's a question of selling-price, and as she doesn't have a cooling tank in her area, she cannot sell 100% of her production to the Pil Company.

The loan that she is requesting is to buy a tank for cooling milk (the cooling tank is a place to keep raw milk in good state, and is how the Pil Company receives the milk every morning and evening). This tank costs approximately $16,000, so for this reason she is making the purchase together with 15 other people in her community, who are putting in $1,000 each.

Señora Lucia will now be able to have access to this cooling tank, and will be able to deliver 100% of her milk production to the Pil Andina Company.
