A loan of $225 helped to buy bananas.

Seraphine Kavithe's story

Seraphine is a 51-year-old married woman. She has five children with ages ranging from 13 years to 30 years. She describes herself as innovative and patient. She operates a general store where she sells bananas, potatoes, bread, beverages and other items. She has been involved in this business for 16 years. Her business is located within a shopping centre in Thika. She describes her biggest business challenge as low sales volumes especially when the neighbouring schools are on vacation, since they are her major customers.

Seraphine will use this 20,000 Kenyan shilling loan to purchase bananas to increase her stock and meet the high demand for bananas by her customers. Her business goal is to grow her business to a wholesale and become the supplier of bananas in her area. She wants to build her own business premises. She hopes that in the future she will be able to teach her children business skills that will help them thrive in self-employment.
