A loan of $375 helped to install a nursery.

Marino's story

Marino is 30 years old and single. He lives in his own house, located in the community of Nueva Fortaleza, Pichari. He is an upright and hardworking man. His goal is to have a quiet and comfortable retirement. Farming has been his family's traditional occupation for many years. Today, Marino continues to follow this path, partly since he could not finish school because his parents did not have enough money to support him. That's how he started cultivating cocoa, working hard from dawn until dusk. These days, however, his work is much more efficient, as he uses a technique that is better than the traditional one. So he harvests his crop in less time, plus the quality of his fruit has led to an increased demand from the wholesalers.

Marino would like to have land where can build a nursery so that he can graft cocoa plants and thereby get more fruit. This is the reason he has come to microfinance partner MFP to ask for a loan to fulfill his goals. This will be his first loan with MFP, and he promises to pay his installments punctually. With the 1,000 soles ($375) he is requesting, he will be able to install a nursery for the cocoa plants.
