A loan of $750 helped to buy a cow or a dozen sheep.

Paulina's story

Paulina is a member of the Medallitas de Oro II communal bank, which is located in Puno district, in Puno province and department. She is 34, married and has three children. She studied only in primary school.

She has worked with Manuela Ramos/CrediMUJER for three years. With her prior loan of 300 nuevos soles, she bought regional food such as potatoes and chuño (indigenous freeze dried potatoes). She also sells animals such as cows and sheep.

Now Paulina will request a new loan of 2,000 nuevos soles which she will invest in the purchase of a cow or one dozen sheep. She will sell the animals in the towns of Juliaca, Taraco and Acora every Saturday and Sunday. At times she slaughters them and sells the meat in the city of Puno. She works with her sister in the business. Her husband works in the mine.

Her dream is to improve the business and thus increase their income.

What she likes about the communal bank is the punctuality of the members and the communication among them.
