Mary Ruth's story

Mrs. Mary is a member of the communal bank San Fernando II of the district of Calleria, department of Ucayali. She is 55, married and has three children, two of whom are adults.

She is a seamstress who makes children's underwear which is what is in most demand from her customers. For several years she has worked with Manuela Ramos and all of her loans have been invested in materials to make the different products she sews.

With the new loan in the amount of 1,500 PEN she will buy 5 kilos of fabric, 5 kilos of cotton, 2 cones of elastic, 3 rolls of satin ribbon and one cone of 1 cm lace. These are the materials she uses on the garments to give them a better finish. She does all the work at home in the afternoons and part of the evenings when she delivers the orders.

Her youngest son is still in school and needs his parents' support. Her husband is a retired teacher and receives a monthly pension to cover household expenses.

The years she has worked with Manuela Ramos have been useful in setting up her business in order to generate her own income and help the family.
