A loan of $1,000 helped to buy passionfruit seeds.

Santiago De Los Angeles's story

44-year old Santiago lives with his wife and children in the community of Upala de San Carlos in the province of Alajeula. There are five national parks, a reserve for wild animals, five protected areas, and several forest reserves in Alajeula. In addition, there is the Juan Santamaría Museum where locally made crafts are exhibited. The area is the most important in the country for the production of coffee and sugar cane.

Santiago has had his farm for several years on land that he inherited from his parents. He cannot afford to invest in his farm and make it more productive. He thinks the organization's plan to lend money is very interesting and will benefit both himself and his neighbours.

Santiago is seeking a loan of 500,000 colones to buy passionfruit seeds. In this way he hopes to increase production on his farm and also improve his own and his family's standard of living.

He is a member of the Delirio Community Bank, one of 110 organizations run by EDESA in Costa Rica. This will be his first loan. He hopes to continue to develop both on a personal and a financial level, and he plans also to participate actively in organizing loans within his community.
