Elsa's story

Elsa is a member of the communal bank San Fernando II, in the district of Calleria, department of Vcayali. She is 56 yeras old, married and has 6 children.

She has been a member of the communal bank Manuela Ramos for 4 years. She sells seasonal vegetables. With this new loan of 1700 soles she will buy: 2 bags of corn, 2 plastic trays, 2 packages of bags, and 2 meters of plastic.

These days she buys corn on the cob and she removes the husks in order to make humitas (humitas are smaller than tamales and are made with sweet ingredients instead of meat and are wrapped in corn husks.)

She takes care of this business until noon, and she spends the afternoon buying vegetables for the next day in a market place.

Her husband is also an independent worker. She has three single adult age children living with her who no longer depend on her. They all work. She is looking forward to obtaining a loan from Manuela Ramos and increasing her earnings.
