A loan of $750 helped to buy bags of fertilizer.

Nelly's story

24-year old Nelly is a hardworking woman. She lives with her husband José and their 6-year old son Daniel in a rented house in the village of Tapo. Ever since she was a girl she has worked on the land. In those eight years she was able to learn certain skills such as how to make progress and get ahead.

Nelly's principal crops are potatoes, peas, and beans which she grows in the fields in her community. What she most enjoys is being able to share with her husband the wish to do well; they go to work together every day in the fields. Her greatest difficulty is obtaining sufficient money to pay for their expenses such as the annual rent for the fields and their son's education. For this reason Nelly also raises 40 sheep and 50 guinea pigs. Soon she will harvest her potato crop and plans to then plant yucca for which there is a high demand. In the future Nelly would like to earn more money so she can buy land of her own as a new baby will be arriving soon. She is pregnant.

Nelly belongs to the San Jerónimo de Queta Community Bank and this is her eighth loan with MFP. She feels she has done well because the support she has received from her Association has helped her improve her crops. For this reason she promises to pay back the money punctually.

She is sowing the Andina potato variety and will use the loan money to buy organic fertilizer to spread on the fields.
