The BENKADI group is made up of six married women of an average age of 36 years with 3 children each who live for the majority in polygamous families in the town of Sikasso.
This is their seventh loan with the Soro Yiriwaso microfinance institution in order to satisfy their clients’ needs. All the previous loans ended well.
AWA who sells traditional wax fabric in this group of women called BENKADI ,is sitting in the front with her legs crossed. She is well known in the business and is very much in demand.
With her loan she intends to purchase about 10 lengths of fabric. She buys her stock in Bamako and Sikasso town from wholesalers.
She makes her sales to order in the professional organisations and different neighbourhoods of Sikasso town and in the family to a clientele made up of men and women for cash and often on credit.
She aims to make an average monthly profit of 27.500FCFA of which some will be used to repay the loan and the interest and the rest for her savings.
Le groupe BENKADI est constitué de six femmes toutes mariées ayant une moyenne d’âge de 36 ans, 3 enfants et vivant la plupart dans des familles polygames dans la ville de Sikasso.
Elles sont à leur septième prêt avec l’institution de microfinance Soro Yiriwaso afin de satisfaire le besoin de leurs clientèles. Tous les prêts antérieures se sont bien dénoués.
AWA, qui fait le commerce de pagnes wax dans ce groupe de femmes BENKADI, est assise devant, les jambes croisées. Elle a une grande renommée en la matière et est très sollicitée.
Elle compte acheter avec son prêt, une dizaine de pièces de pagnes wax. Elle s’approvisionne à Bamako et à Sikasso ville auprès des grossistes.
Elle effectue sa vente sur commande dans les structures professionnelles et différents quartiers de Sikasso ville et en famille à une clientèle composée d’hommes et de femmes, au comptant souvent à crédit.
Elle envisage réaliser un bénéfice mensuel moyen de 27.500FCFA dont une partie est utilisée pour payer le prêt et son intérêt et l’autre pour son épargne.

Soro Yiriwaso is a microfinance institution that works primarily in rural and semi-urban areas of Mali to provide underprivileged communities with access to financial services.The organization facilitates access for disadvantaged clients, particularly women, to new resources and services, fostering solidarity and cooperation among its clients. Kiva lenders’ funds will enable Soro Yiriwaso to expand its outreach and target even more underserved Malians involved in business and agriculture.

The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee.
