A loan of $700 helped a member to source farming inputs, such as seeds and fertilizer, at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Nalukesi Group's story

Greetings from Western Kenya! Bonventure is the facilitator of the Nalukesi group. Bonventure and his group joined One Acre Fund in the year 2011 and will re-enroll in the 2012 program.

Bonventure takes care of seven children at home with his wife. He joined One Acre Fund in order to grow enough food for his family and to have additional maize profits to send his children to school. In the recent 2011 season, Bonventure had a good maize yield harvesting 8 bags on ½ acre of land. Before joining One Acre Fund, Bonventure was only able to harvest 3 bags of maize on ½ acre of land.

With income from maize sales, Bonventure will educate his children and invest in livestock.

With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important inputs to distribute to Bonventure and his group during Kenya’s next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs is part of One Acre Fund’s integrated agriculture package, which includes training, reliable input supply (such as fertilizer and seeds), credit and insurance.

In 2012, the members of Nalukesi group will each plant maize plots between ½ and 1 acre of land.
