A loan of $950 helped to buy chickens, feed, and vitamins.

Madalena's story

Madalena was born in the district of Manjacaze, in the province of Gaza in southern Mozambique. She is married and the father of four children, three of whom are adults and the youngest of which attends school. She went to school through the ninth grade but had to drop out because of financial difficulties. She lives in her own home with her family, and also supports her mother.

She left Manjacaze for Maputo in search of a better life. She's been selling chickens for more than four years. She earns about 10,500 meticals a month, which she uses to cover household expenses. She is also able to save a small amount in her bank account (BIM).
She has never had loans from other banks. She learned about Hluvuku from friends who are also clients of the institution. This is her first loan with Hluvuku, in the amount of 25,000 meticals, which she intends to use to buy chickens, feed, and vitamins to increase the quantity of her stock.
She intends to request more loans from Hluvuku to keep her business strong and continue to invest in her chickens.
