Sulmira's story

Sulmira is 49 years old and a member of the "Nuestra Señora de la Paz“ (Our Lady of Peace) community bank which is located in Tarapoto district, in San Martín department. She is married and has two children. As she frequently has to travel to Lima for health reasons, her husband has left his job in order to devote himself to the business. They have a grocery store which is open all day long.

When her children were young, Sulmira decided to set up a business which would enable her to be at home and watch over her children. 25 years ago, she started selling a range of items as an itinerant street vendor in front of her house. She now has a well-established grocery store and people say that she is lucky because of its location.

Sulmira really hopes that one of her children will work in the family business and keep it going.

Sulmira will invest her new loan for 2,000 soles in buying new products such as detergents, drinks, vegetables and beauty products.

Sulmira really enjoys meeting with her friends from the community bank each month. They hold their meetings in her house and have a great time. She is grateful to Manuela Ramos for all the support she has received over the 12 years in which she has been a member. She feels part of the family.
