Sr. Jesús sells llama heads and is also a master practitioner of folk medicine. He says that he can cure people through the use of medicinal herbs. The loan he is requesting will be used to buy more llamas so that he can eventually sell the meat and the heads at the markets where dishes using these ingredients are prepared. Llama meat is known for being more appealing and healthier than beef. Jesús lives in his own home in the District of Pasankeri in the city of La Paz. He is a widower and has five children.

Jesús has been a client of IMPRO since 2008. This is the second time that his loan request has been referred to Kiva for funding.

El señor Jesús, es comerciante de cabezas de llamas y también es maestro curandero, es decir que cura a la gente usando hierbas medicinales. El crédito lo requiere para la compra de más llamas, para luego vender su carne y las cabezas a los mercados donde se cocinan y se hacen comidas con carne de llama, que por ciento es muy apetecida y más saludable que la carne de res. Vive en casa propia la misma queda ubicada en la zona de Pasankeri en la ciudad de La Paz, es viudo y tiene cinco hijos. Jesús es cliente de IMPRO desde el año 2008 y esta será la segunda vez que su solicitud de crédito sea canalizada a través de Kiva.

IMPRO is a small non-profit organization that has been offering micro credit to the working poor in the Bolivian cities of La Paz and El Alto since 1995. IMPRO’s goal is to fight poverty by offering loans to small business owners who cannot access credit through the regular banking system due to a lack of guarantees or collateral.

To ensure that everyone has access to credit, IMPRO maintains a low interest rate by minimizing operational costs. IMPRO’s partnership with Kiva, which began in 2007, has allowed IMPRO to expand its services while maintaining these low interest rates.
