A loan of $550 helped to buy spare parts, lubricants and car accessories.

Soraya Gisela's story

Members of the Trabajando Para Un Futuro communal bank meet every 15 days in Rocafuerte canton. This place is known for the delicious sweets its inhabitants prepare, which are acclaimed throughout the country, and for the warmth of its friendly hardworking people.

Sra. Soraya is a founding member of the communal bank and she likes it because she began her business with one of its loans. She is 41, married and has six children, two adults and four who are ages 17, 14, 11 and 9 and study in secondary and primary school. All still live with her. Her husband is a mechanic.

Soraya has a grocery store in her house where she sells all kinds of products, such as rice, sugar, oil, detergents, water, soda, juice, among other items. She works every day from 6 a.m. until 10 p.m. and at times even later. In addition, her husband has an auto shop in which he repairs automobiles and also sells car spare parts at the same time that he does repairs. She has had her store for one and a half years and she tells us that she began it with her first loan from the bank.

On this occasion she will use the loan to supply her husband’s business by buying spare parts, lubricants and car accessories.

Her goals are to continue with the two businesses and to see to it that both grow with the passing of time.
