A loan of $875 helped to buy cows and thus increase her business.

Lidia Mariana's story

Lidia is 45 years old and was born in Latacunga, in the province of Chimborazo. In the Andes Mountains in the central region of Ecuador is Latacunga, the capital of Cotopaxi province, which is located at 2850 meters above sea level. The climate averages 12 degrees Celsius. This county is very well known for its colorful festival called the Fiesta of the Mama Negra that is a celebration of independence. Lidia learned from her parents to care for cattle and to sell the milk and for 10 years she has worked on her own in this activity. Despite being a single mother, she tells us that she has known how to care for her child, giving all that is necessary. She is asking for a loan in order to buy more cattle, and in this way to get more liters of milk to sell and thus have higher earnings. This is her first loan with Fundación Alternativa but she tells us that financial institutions have been a big help before in purchasing her own cattle as the costs are high and it is difficult to start.
