Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

Karagul's story

Karalgul is seventy-nine and retired after forty-nine years teaching high school geography and becoming a Kyrgyz Republic "Outstanding Achiever in Education." He is known as a principled, driven, and responsible man.

In 1992, in pursuit of additional means to support his large family, Karagul started a livestock business. With 45,000KGS in initial capital, he managed to turn his farm into a successful establishment with two horses, fifteen sheep, five goats, and a cow. Thanks to profits from managing the business, Karagul was able to help his children get their own houses. Nowadays, Karagul has income from selling milk and meat products on the order of 15,000KGS per month.

Karagul has come to Bai Tushum and Partners for a loan of 40,000KGS to buy two calves so he can increase his earnings, which he plans to use to do repairs on his house.
