A loan of $750 helped to buy two bags of pea seeds, sacks of fertilizer, and products with which to stock her store.

Sonia's story

39-year-old Sonia is a tenacious and cheerful woman. She is a single mother and, in spite of the constant problems that she faces, she is proud of her daughter María. The pair live in their own home which is located in the small village of Patay.

Sonia gets up very early in the morning so that she can prepare her food and send her daughter off to school. She then goes out to care for and weed her crops until late at night. As she says "for as long as my body can withstand it". Sonia has been growing potatoes (a Peruvian tuber), peas and gladioli flowers for 29 years. Like the true businesswoman she is, Sonia also opened a small store where she sells basic household products. In the future, she would like to increase her sales. She would like to buy more seeds and grow crops in larger quantities. This will enable her to sell at a better price and provide her daughter, who is the driving force behind her progress and work, with an excellent quality of life. She tells us that in a few months time she will harvest the gladioli that she sowed.

Sonia belongs to the 'Virgen de Fátima' community bank and this is her tenth loan from MFP. She is grateful for the security which her community bank gives her. For this reason, she pledges to be punctual in making her repayments. With your support, Sonia will invest the money she has requested in buying two bags of pea seeds, several sacks of natural fertilizers and, if she has money left over, she will buy basic household products for her grocery store.
