A loan of $4,850 helped a member to purchase shoes and sandals.

Las Palmas Km 14 Portoviejo Group's story

The Communal Bank, Las Palmas KM 14, meets every fifteen days in the Canton of Montecristi, known for its rich pre-colonial culture and for its arts and crafts which are nationally and internationally recognized. They are also known for their famous Panama-style hats.

Four months ago, these members decided to organize and form a communal bank. The credit that they have been able to receive has helped them improve their small businesses. All of the members work in diverse areas, such as business, services, food sales.

One of the members of this group is Ms. Ruth. She is one of the founding members of the communal bank and likes it very much because she can easily obtain loans. She is 49 years old and has 4 children, three of whom are adults and one of whom is a minor of seven years old who attends school. Her husband is a business man.

She is a very good house wife who gives her all to her home and to her children. In order to help her husband with their household costs, she works in the sale of shoes and sandals by catalog. She works four days a week and sells them door to door, mainly visiting her clients in the afternoon. She has been doing this for over two years and states that is has been going very well, as she has numerous customers.

This loan will be used to purchase shoes and sandals, since she already has many orders.

Her dreams are to expand her business and the communal bank.
