A loan of $3,200 helped to set up a business website and buy more inventory.

Jean Pierre's story

Jean Pierre has been an artisan all his life. He had his own crafts workshop in his native Congo before moving to the US as a refugee in 2007. After almost three years of working with a non-profit that produced and commercialized African crafts, he decided to start his own business. Jean Pierre uses his connections with African artisans living in the US to purchase crafts, but he also buys products from Africa whenever he can purchase in bulk. He resells all the crafts at fairs and shows in his area. These shows take place during the weekends, which enables him to keep his full-time job. Certain shows and larger clients require more business formality, which in the industry translates into websites and product portfolios. Jean Pierre hopes to open a big crafts store in the United States some day.

Jean Pierre wants a loan to set up a business website to expand his clientele and to be able to sell during the weekdays. The remainder of the loan proceeds will go to make bulk purchases.
