A loan of $2,050 helped a member to buy house-building materials (iron, corrugated zinc, nails, etc.) for the construction of a house.

Sallieu's Group's story

Pictured here are a group of teachers from a technical vocational institute, situated in Waterloo, a small town near Freetown where “Shine on Sierra Leone” has partnered with SMT to start a branch. This group of teachers have come to SMT, also a partner of Kiva.org, based in Makeni, a city in the north, to request a loan of 8,800,000 SLL in order to meet their immediate financial challenges. At the end of each month, they will use their monthly salaries to repay the loan. Their institution’s bursar is directly responsible for deducting the repayment and pays SMT on their behalf. Sallieu is the leader of this group of teachers. Born in Freetown 43 years ago, Sallieu is a husband and a father of eight children. Sallieu has been in the teaching profession for 16 years now. He has requested for this loan in order to buy house-building materials (iron, corrugated zinc, nails, etc.) for the construction of a house.
