A loan of $925 helped to buy fertilizers and hire laborers.

Juana's story

38-year-old Juana is a strong and brave woman who, together with her husband Erasmo, cares for her children Johan and Kevin. They are a united family with aspirations who live in the rural area of Casacoto.

Juana mentions that the best inheritance she will leave her children is an education. For this reason, she is working very hard so that she can pay for her two growing teenagers' university education. In spite of their age, Juana tells us that they are very responsible and help her in caring for her crops. Juana has been in this business for 16 years and, as she is a good farmer, she spends most of her day amongst her potato and vegetable crops. She tells us that every harvest time they provide her with good profits as she travels to the central market in the capital where she sells them wholesale. However, during periods of lower production, the retailers in her town buy her crops at a lower price. This bothers her a lot. However, she does not lose heart. On the contrary, it gives her the strength to get ahead. On Wednesdays and Sundays she sells meat from sheep in the wholesale market in town. This makes her additional money.

Juana belongs to the 'Miraflores de Casacoto' community bank and this is her fourth loan from MFP. She is grateful for the support of the other members of her community bank. She predicts a lot of success as the bank members are good and honest people. For her part, she pledges to make her loan repayments punctually. Juana has sown 'andina' variety potatoes and, with your support, she will invest the money she has requested in buying natural fertilizers and in paying the salary of the laborers who will help her with her harvest.
