A loan of $900 helped a member to source farming inputs, such as seeds and fertilizer, at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Kamwe A Group's story

Peter is the facilitator for Kamwe A group in Chwele. He and his group members joined One Acre Fund in 2011. Peter has a family that include five children and his wife. He joined One Acre Fund in order to be able to harvest more maize on his farm, to access hybrid fertilizer and seed, and to move out of poverty.

With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important farming inputs to distribute to Peter and his group during Kenya's next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs is part of One Acre Fund's integrated agriculture package, which includes training, reliable input supply (such as fertilizer and seeds), credit and insurance.

This year Peter harvested 15 bags of maize on 3/4 acre of land with his One Acre Fund inputs. Peter says the harvest was very good, especially compared with the 5 bags of maize that he used to harvest from the same area.

With profits from his harvest, Peter will buy livestock, save money for the plowing costs of the 2012 season, and help his disabled child to access special education.
