A loan of $425 helped a member to source farming inputs, such as seeds and fertilizer, at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Kabumwa B Group's story

Jezina is the facilitator for Kabumwa B Group in Chwele. She and her fellow group members joined One Acre Fund in 2011. Jezina says that she joined One Acre Fund in order to have additional profit to send her children to school and to access hybrid seed and fertilizer. She also mentions that she wanted to be able to learn more about agriculture through the program.

With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important farming inputs to distribute to Jezina and her group during Kenya's next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs is part of One Acre Fund's integrated agriculture package, which includes training, reliable input supply (such as fertilizer and seeds), credit and insurance.

This season, Jezina says, she had a good harvest, yielding 9.5 bags on 1/2 acre of land. She says that before joining the program, she harvested 1 bag on 1/2 acre. With the profits from her harvest, she plans on investing in her children's education, buying livestock, and purchasing medications.
