A loan of $1,000 helped to buy telephone covers and spare parts as well as telephone charge and refill cards.

Fátima Beatriz's story

Members of the 8 de Diciembre communal bank meet every 15 days in the city of Portoviejo, which is the capital of Manabi, and which has been known for many years as the city of the Royal Tamarind Trees.

Sra. Fátima lives here. She is 32 and lives with her common law husband with whom she has two sons, 16 and 7, who are in secondary and primary schools. Her husband works for a coffee company.

In order to earn something of her own, our friend has a business. She has a small place in her home where she sells telephone accessories and spare parts. She also sells telephone cards for all the operators in the area and does refills. She works everyday from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. She notes that she has had her business for three years and tells us that it is a way to earn a living without having to neglect her home or her sons.

This loan is to buy mobile phone cases, telephone spare parts and telephone cards and refills.

Her goal is to continue expanding her business.
