Lesbia Rosa
Doña Lesbia is a tailor by profession and has also worked at a pre-school for several years. She learned the craft of sewing as a means to support her family of five children. Today her children are married.

She has been working with financing from Afodenic for six loan cycles, all for construction, as this is the most viable way to improve her home. With this new loan, she will build a front wall in order to improve safety. As her walls are covered with zinc metal sheeting, each year they must be replaced with wood, which becomes costly.

She will buy stone, cement, sand, metal, and planks to begin the construction of her wall. Each day, she is happy to be working toward her goal of having a decent home to live in.

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
