A loan of $400 helped to buy specially discounted cosmetics and perfumes on order.

Lorena's story

Lorena, 25, lives with her spouse and 3-year-old child in the southwest part of the city where she has a business selling varied merchandise like cosmetics that she sells via specialized catalogues or guide books. She’s also a frozen treat distributor. These businesses arose gradually to meet the need she had to generate income for her home in order to increase wellbeing. She pays cash for these products but sells them on credit; the frozen treats are sold for cash. Her goal for later on is to strengthen her small frozen treat distributorship and turn it into an ice-cream shop where her customers will have a comfortable environment while they enjoy their treats and refreshments. She also dreams with acquiring her own house and this is her daily motivation.

She is currently applying for her Kiva loan, the first financing she’ll receive from Fundación Mario Santo Domingo that she’ll use to buy cosmetics that are on special discount and perfumes she has pending orders for due to the Day of Love and Friendship which is a time when sales spike and customers have placed orders with Lorena with up to two months advance notice for items that they intend to use as gifts to show their affection for family members, friends and sweethearts.
