A loan of $575 helped a member to source farming inputs, such as seeds and fertilizer, at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Nambasamba A Group's story

Robert is the facilitator for Nambasana A Group. This group joined One Acre Fund in 2010. Robert says that he joined One Acre Fund in order to access the best prices, grow enough food to feed his family, access fertilizer and hybrid seed.

With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important farming inputs to distribute to Robert and his group during Kenya's next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs is part of One Acre Fund's integrated agriculture package, which includes training, reliable input supply (such as fertilizer and seeds), credit and insurance.

In his most recent harvest, Robert reports that he was able to get 9 bags of maize on 1/2 acre. By his measure, this was an excellent harvest. Before joining One Acre Fund, Robert was only able to get 4 bags on 1/2 acre of land.

With the profits from his harvest, Robert plans on sending his children to school, repairing his home, saving for the future, investing in livestock, and perhaps investing in a business.

In total, Robert's group will plant 6 acres of land in 2012, each farmer planting between 1/2 and 1 acre.
