A loan of $500 helped to buy raw materials such as newspaper, card and paper.

Luis Manuel's story

Luis Manuel is 33 years old. He is a single father with two children. One of his children is 15 years old and in his last year of junior high school. Next year he will start high school. His youngest son is 7 years old and in the second year of elementary school.

Luis Manuel tells us that he has a cardboard-making business. It is a family business. He tells us that his father was the one who started the business 11 years ago.

Luis Manuel has requested this loan to buy raw materials such as card, newspaper and all kinds of paper (toilet paper, notebook paper, books, etc.) He buys this type of material for making sheets of cardboard. The manufacturing process is simple: all the raw material is ground to make a paper pulp which is then put out to dry in the sun. One of the challenges that he has frequently faced is that if the sun doesn't come out it is very difficult to dry the pulp. This often happens when it rains and it means that he loses a lot of profit. However, Luis Manuel is a very hard-working person and he never lets himself become discouraged when faced with this situation.

Luis Manuel hopes that his business will grow so that he no longer has to request loans although he tells us "I am grateful for the help that FRAC and Kiva give me because it has been a great help. Above all, I am grateful for the trust that is being placed in me when they loan me money".
