Mapendo Plus Group's story

Sylvie is a chairwoman of a community bank named “Mapendo Plus.” The group is composed of 13 microentrepreneurs who are jointly united to receive loans from Kiva through MFI HOPE DRC, with the goal of developing their businesses.
Sylvie has been in business since 1980 with a starting capital of $80. Today, she operates a restaurant. She is 33 years old, married and has five children between the ages of seven months and 16 years old. All of them go to school. Her restaurant prospered thanks to HOPE’s loans. She makes a profit of about $30 per day. With the next loan, Sylvie intends to increase the inventory of the restaurant by purchasing one sack of corn flour, one sack of manioc flour, five liters of vegetable oil, and two bags of salted fish in order to increase her working capital. Currently, she is happy to be part of one of MFI HOPE’s groups. She joined in 2009 and her business has been strengthened through the nine loans she has received from MFI HOPE DRC. She repaid them all properly. Her dream is to someday open a catering service. Her restaurant is located in the western area of Kinshasa.
