A loan of $600 helped to buy a set of tables and chairs and to stock her business with new, popular products.

Zurima Esther's story

44-year-old Zurima lives in the south of the city together with her husband and 14-year-old son. She has owned an ice-cream parlor there for eight years. She started the business with her husband. Zurima's husband used to work in a gas station in a town in Magdalena department. When he lost his job, he used his severance pay to buy ice cream to sell and also other merchandise. The business has gradually grown and now Zurima needs a bigger injection of working capital so that they can buy a set of tables and chairs and stock their business with new, popular products.

This Kiva loan is Zurima's third loan through Fundación Mario Santo Domingo. With the organization's help, she has managed to improve her business both physically and as regards working capital. Her dream is to have premises for her business as she currently runs it outside her home. Zurima's financial indicators, from which she boosts her growth, are as follows: return on sales - 19%, accounts receivable turnover - 3 days, stock turnover - 1 day.
