A loan of $775 helped to purchase three tires and spare parts for her husband's taxi.

Genny Marlene's story

The Montecristi Community Bank meets every 15 days in the village of Montecristi, which is known for its rich pre-Columbian culture and for its craft-work recognized on a national and international level. The village is famous for its straw hats. It is here we find Genny. She is 40 year old, married and has four children, ages 21, 19, 14 and 11. One of the older ones attends a university, while the younger ones are in school. Her husband is a taxi driver. Genny is requesting the loan for her husband's taxi, which is the sustenance for the entire family. Her husband works every day from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m. in the city of Manta. She says he has been in the profession for more than 18 years and thanks to God has never had any problems even though being a cab driver is very dangerous. They plan to use the loan to purchase three tires and spare parts to fix the taxi. Genny has been with the community bank for three years and enjoys it because the loans have helped her and her husband keep the taxi in good shape. Their dream is to buy another, newer car.
