Maruja Carrillo's story

Maruja’s a member of the “Mujeres al Progreso D. Juli” (Juli Women to Progress) communal bank located in Juli District, Chucuito Province, Puno Department. She’s 38 years old, married and has five children. She finished secondary school.

She has been working with the Manuela Ramos Movement for the last seven years. Her initial loan was for 300 new soles that she invested in her crafts business; she bought flannel and wool. She also works selling cattle and sheep.

She will use this new, 1200 new sol, loan to buy a lamb, wool and flannel to do her weaving and embroidery and combine her merchandise and sell it in Chulluni-Puno. Her dream is to own a car for her personal use and to transport her merchandise. What she likes about the communal bank is the meetings, the talks, the training and the savings.
