A loan of $650 helped to purchase fabric for making men's suits that will be rented out for events.

Elba's story

Doña Elba is 55 years old, married, and has two dependent children. She says that she buys men’s outfits such as smoking jackets, cadet uniforms, tuxedo tails, regular suits, and other items. Elba says that she is filled with emotion every time she rents out outfits for “quinceañeras” because she enjoys seeing the excitement on the faces of young girls as they plan their parties and helping their chamberlains (the attendants at the ceremony) transform into well-dressed young men. She takes great satisfaction in seeing the joy on her customers’ faces. Doña Elba has been in this business for 20 years. She says that just recently she partnered with her daughter-in-law and her son to enlarge her shop and buy more outfits.

Elba says that she is requesting a loan to buy fabric in different colors for making ties, bows, sashes, trousers, white shirts, and other items. She says that she wants to make her shop larger because she cannot keep all of her merchandise there. Another space has been rented so that she can store her rental outfits. Elba plans to travel to Mexico City to buy the fabrics for making trousers. The bows and other items will be made by other shops.
