A loan of $375 helped to buy greater volumes of entrails and a new means of transportation.

Gustavo's story

Gustavo, 58, is married and has five children, ages 22 to 38. He lives on the south side of the city where he has a business selling beef and entrails by the pound. He began his business over 30 years ago when he was a street vendor using a donkey for transportation. His business expertise dates back from when he used to have a shoe repair shop in his home. Now he distributes beef and entrails throughout the neighborhood and surrounding areas. He buys at the public market at 4:00 a.m. and then at 6:00 a.m. begins selling liver, kidneys, udder, feet and tripe so the consumers have time to prepare their meals.

He is applying for a credikiva which is his first loan through the Mario Santo Domingo Foundation. He will use the loan to buy greater amounts of entrails and a new mode of transportation in order to continue distributing meat among his customers. His dream is to set up a shop in his own home, with a good freezer system to preserve the meat. Meanwhile he is making a decent profit and works hard every day to increase customers and earnings.
