A loan of $500 helped to buy supplies for her next crop of maize, rice and beans.

Clara Virginia's story

Clara Virginia, 52, and her husband have three children, 25-, 22-, and 14-years old, respectively. They live in Pueblo Viejo, a canton in Ecuador's Los Rios province.

The members of the UNIDOS SOMOS community bank, in Pueblo Viejo, are farmers. They grow maize, rice and beans.

Clara, too, grows maize, rice and beans. She buys her supplies from Agroinsumos Karlita, a farming supply company, and sells her crop at Castillo.

Clara is applying for a loan to buy supplies for her farming business. She needs seeds, fertilizer and other supplies for her next crop.

The loan will help her to support her family. She faces problems such as insects and plant diseases, as well as the vagaries of the weather. Theloan will make it easier for her to buy the supplies she needs for the business. Her dream is to buy a tractor for the farm. In her spare time, she likes to listen to music.
