A loan of $1,000 helped to grow tomatoes and pay for labor.

Luis Alberto's story

Luis Alberto, aged 28, lives in Pueblo Nuevo in the mucipality of Estelí. He is single, and is a farmer who grows vegetables.

This is his second loan through Kiva. He was very positive about his first loan, as with it he was able to keep up his planting of tomatoes, buy supplies and fertilizers, and pay for labor. Additionally, he had a good yield, which was one of his goals in beginning the planting. However, he had some small problems because of the low price of vegetables in the market. But now that he has become more established for his vegetables, his sales possibilities are stronger and he does not want to lose the opportunity to grow and sell his tomato production. He considers them to be of excellent qualitiy, and they are the fruits of his hard work and the assistance of his family.

He is requesting the loan to plant tomatoes and pay for labor. With this investment, he has a vision of achieving an excellent crop, selling his entire harvest, paying off his loans, and increasing his area for farming.
