Vilma's story

Vilma is a member of “Las Estrellitas Unidas del Titicaca” (The United Little Stars of Titicaca) Communal Bank, located in the district of Pilcuyo, province of El Collao, department of Puno. She is 28 years old, lives with her partner, and has two children. She studied up to her first year of high school.

She buys and sells fruits such as pineapples, apples, bananas, and watermelon. She has worked with Movimiento Manuela Ramos for three years. Her first loan was for S/. 300.00 nuevos soles, which she invested in her business of buying and selling fruits. With her new loan of S/. 2,000.00 nuevos soles, she will purchase thirty boxes of apples, and 1000 bananas, mandarins, oranges, and pineapples. She tells us that she buys her merchandise in Tacna and sells it in the town of Illave. Her husband helps her with the business and he is also a construction worker. Her dream is to have a good home in order to improve her lifestyle. She is pleased with the ease of the communal bank’s loan process and enjoys the conversations.
