Teresa's story

Teresa is 41 years old. She is a simple, hard-working woman. She lives in her own house with her husband Arnaldo with whom she has been living for the last 11 years. They are still caring for 4 of their 5 children in the indigenous community of Alianza (central Peruvian jungle). Teresa's days are focused on cultivating her land. She was able to buy this land with years of hard work and now she is one of the main producers of bananas, coffee, avocado, corn, and achiote [annatto] in the province of Chanchamayo. Buyers come to her to buy because her crops are very good. What she likes most about her job is caring for her plants which she does with great affection. She has been doing this for 21 years and she considers the most difficult thing about her job to be working with laborers in different fields with different crops. For this reason she needs money so she can improve her crops. Now, over time, she wants to buy new land so she can increase her production. She knows that she will be able to achieve this as she is a hard-working, capable woman.

She belongs to the communal bank "Alianza al progreso" and this is her fourth loan with MFP. She is certain that she will be able to make all of her payments on time since the members of her communal bank have taught her to be responsible. Upon receiving her support Teresa will buy natural fertilizers to spread on her crops as well as 2 thousand coffee seedlings.
