HUANCAYO, Peru / Food Production/Sales

A loan of $550 helped to purchase supplies and products for making food.

Mencia's story

At the age of 38, Mencia lives with her husband and 4 children in a rented home. She has always had a talent for cooking flavourful dishes, so she thought that this was the best option for making an income for her family: selling food to passersby. She sells typical dishes from her home, such as anticucho [grilled skewered meat, often marinated in vinegar and spices and with a boiled potato or bread on the end of the skewer]. Her business is located around the corner from her house, and she has had the business for four years. She thinks that it is a good option for development and it has helped her in times of economic need. It currently helps her to sustain her children. For this reason she wants to purchase new supplies to allow her to sell her dishes more frequently. This is her third loan with MFP, and throughout her time with MFP she has proven to be punctual with her payments because she continues to work hard to get ahead. With the money that she is requesting, she will invest in the purchase of supplies and products for making her food.
