A loan of $700 helped to buy candy, seven boxes of crackers, and seven crates of soft drinks to sell, and to buy wool in various colors for her handicrafts business.

Maria Luisa's story

Maria is a member of the communal bank "Mujeres al Progreso de Juli," which is located in the Juli district, in the province of Chucuito and the department of Puno. She is 31 years old. She lives with her partner and has 2 children. She went to primary school.

She has been working with the Manuela Ramos Movement for a year. Her first loan was for 300 PEN, and she invested the money in her business, which is selling handicrafts.

She has a shop where she sells embroidery, weavings, and dyed items. She also raises animals such as sheep, cattle, and pigs.

She will invest this new loan of 1900 PEN in the purchase of candy, seven boxes of crackers, and seven crates of soft drinks to sell at the fairs. She is thinking of making good use of these opportunities and thus having another source of income. She is also thinking of buying more wool for her handicrafts.

Her husband sells shoes. Her dream is to improve her house and improve their livestock to obtain more earnings.

What she likes about the communal bank is the punctuality and responsibility of the members.
