A loan of $2,925 helped a member to buy costume jewelry.

Tierra Fertil (Cuenca) Group's story

The communal bank "Tierra Fertil" is made up of 10 members, 2 of whom live on the outskirts of Valle parish. This parish is known for the natural beauty of its countryside. Its people work in retail trade, animal husbandry and agriculture. Many of them go out in the morning and return from their work each evening to the city. The people of Valle parish maintain their culture and the traditions of their parents.

The members of this group are very cheerful and hardworking. They work in a variety of businesses that allow them to contribute to their households economically and get ahead with their families.

One of these members is Alexandra, who lives on the outskirts of Valle parish. She is 27 years old and is a single mother with a 3 year-old child. She lives with her parents in her parent's house; her father is a government employee and her mother is a housewife.

Alexandra works as a government employee. She works Monday through Friday from 7am until 3pm. In her free time, she has a business selling costume jewelry to her friends and acquaintances.

This is her second loan cycle with her communal bank, and she will use the proceeds of this loan to buy costume jewelry so she can have more merchandise to sell.

Her dream is to travel the world.

The two small photos attached above are of two of the female members and one of the male members who, for personal reasons, could not be present when the group photo was taken.
