A loan of $1,000 helped to maintain his coffee crop by purchasing compost, supplies for planting, and paying for labor.

Mercedes's story

Mercedes is originally from Condega, a town in the Department of Estelí. He is 58 years old, married, and the father of two children. Mercedes is a farmer by trade, having grown and produced coffee for the past 25 years. He started his business activities with funding from a distributor since he had no capital at the age of 30. Mercedes has spent his life growing and selling coffee, and he says with modesty that it has been an important means of generating a good income.

He is requesting a loan so that he can maintain his coffee crop. Mercedes will buy compost, supplies for planting, and pay for labor. He hopes that this investment will result in production that is of good quality and has high yields. By giving his crops proper maintenance, he will be able to sell his harvest at a good price so that he can cover his expenses and still generate a profit. His plans include continuing to grow coffee, making improvements to his farm, and working hard so that he can improve his family’s standard of living.
