A loan of $900 helped to purchase groceries for her home.

Sonia Soledad's story

Sonia is a member of Mujeres en Progreso community bank. She lives in the city of Cuenca, Ecuador, whose city center was named a World Heritage Site in December 1999. The historical center is a mixture between colonial and modern times, there is a wide variety of cuisine, and the people are very friendly and cordial. Sonia is a young woman of 21, married and has two children, ages 4 and 1. Her oldest son is about to start school. Her husband works on ceilings. They don't have their own home, so they live on their own in a brother's house. Sonia works at a convenience store Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. This is her third loan with her community bank and she plans to use it to purchase groceries for her home. Her goal is to buy a vehicle.
