James's story

43-year-old James has spent 15 years in commercial farming in the district of Ibanda. The father of six grows beans, maize, bananas, and many other crops depending on the season.

James is not only hard working but also a very determined farmer who always aims higher. He sells charcoal as an additional source of income. Monthly he says his sales income totals to 400,000 Uganda shillings (UGX).

James has a plan of expanding his coffee and banana plantation in order to educate his children up to the University level. With this Kiva loan, he intends to purchase farming implements such as mulch, manure, and good seeds for his plantation.
