A loan of $400 helped to buy and sell food (potatoes, fish, rice, peanuts, pasta and other products).

Alice's story

Alice was born in Manhiça, in the southen Mozambican province of Maputo. She is a married mother of 6 children who all attend school. Alice attended school up to the 5th Grade but left due to her financial circumstances. She lives in her own home with her family and does not support anyone else.

She has never lived outside of her home town. She has been running her own business for some time, selling a range of products, from which she earns a monthly salary of around 10,000MTs. This covers for household expenses and allows her to save a little in her Millennium BIM bank account.

She has never borrowed money from other banks. She heard about Hluvuku through a friend who is also a Hluvuku client. This is Alice's first loan with this institution, for 10,000MTs; she wants to use this to buy food products (potatoes, fish, rice, peanuts, pasta and other items) in order to increase her stock levels.
Alice wants to expand her business by building premises, and she intends to apply for further loans with Hluvuku to achieve this aim.
