A loan of $550 helped to buy foodstuffs.

Ricardo Limber's story

The “Nueva Ciudad Alfaro” (New City of Alfaro) communal bank meets every two weeks in Montecristi Canton, noted for its rich pre-colonial culture and its crafts that are well-known nationally and internationally; it’s the place the famous straw hats come from.

Ricardo, 48, lives in this place. He is in a common law relationship and has an 8-year-old son that goes to school. His wife’s a housewife.

Our friend earns his livelihood working as a merchant. Together with his wife he makes candy of various shapes and flavors to then sell. He sells every day since his products are quite tempting. He’s been in this business for 20 years now.

This loan will be used to buy foodstuffs needed to make the candy. He’s been in the communal bank almost since the beginning and likes it because he can finance his business with the loans. His dreams are to stay in business and that it produces more every day.
