A loan of $900 helped to purchase sodas, beer and groceries.

Iván Augusto's story

The communal bank Nueva Ciudad Alfaro meets every two weeks in the Montecristi canton, known for its rich precolonial culture and for its handicraft which is renowned nationally and internationally, the place of the famous Panama hats.

In this place lives Don Iván, who is 34 and in a committed relationship by which he has three children, all of them minors who go to school, two in middle school and the youngest in elementary school. His partner devotes herself to business. He has three cycles in the communal bank and he likes it because the interest rates are lower than in other lending institutions.

He along with his partner devotes himself to the fast food business. Every afternoon they go to downtown Montecristi where they have a cart where they prepare and sell delicious hamburgers, hot dogs, french fries, juices, sodas and fruit smoothies. They work every day from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. and have had the business for ten years, during which time it has gone very well for them.

This loan will used for purchasing sodas, beer, and the groceries he needs for preparing the foods.

His dream is to have a large restaurant.
