Los Gigantes De Santiago - Chacan Group's story

(En la fotografía la socia Lucia está levantando la mano). (In the photograph, Lucia is the one raising her hand.) Lucia is 29 years old. She was born in the city of Izcuchaca, in the district of Anta (Cusco) and she now lives in the community of Santiago de Chaca, in the district of Anta, in the province of Anta, in the department of Cusco. She has lived in the community for several years and this is where she works. Lucia lives in a common-law marriage and has three children. She works hard to help her children get ahead. She has a business providing cellular phone call services and also works in agriculture and raises cattle. She has been offering this service [cell phone service] for five months and it has gone very well thanks to the effort she puts into her work. At this time, Lucia needs the loan to pay the wages of the people she employs to provide the cellular phone call services. The meetings of the “Los Gigantes de Santiago – Chacan” communal bank take place every 30 days in the community of Chacan, in the house of one of the members. The communal bank is made up of people who are hardworking and enterprising who constantly look for opportunities to get ahead through their daily hard work so they can give their children a better future. The population is indigenous and people speak the Quechua language. Her main occupation is agriculture. Others work in sales, as weavers, and tailors. The women also spin wool when they’re not busy with other things. The community of Chacan is located an hour by car from the city of Cusco. Cusco has been known for many years as the “Archeological Capital of America.”
